Strike Fighter Squadron(VFA) 83 "Rampagers"

The Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83, the "Rampagers" main goal while training in Alpena was to support Naval Special Warfare Group 2 Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) training as an airborne strike platform, and secondarily to train our aircrew to Close Air Support (CAS) scenarios with live and inert ordnance. "We most enjoyed the ability to utilize the Grayling range for a full air-to-surface combat training facility with live ground controllers on scene. The ease of operations at the Alpena CRTC, in the surrounding airspace, and at the Grayling range allowed us to complete our training in an environment that we could maximize our efficiency and training opportunities. It is always a thrilling experience to be able to spend two weeks becoming very proficient with combat procedures and live ordnance." stated Brendan Buholzer LT VFA-83, OPS .(U.S Air Force photo by Crystal Seelye)
